i take fixed amount deposits for hires as follows

under £250 deposit £25
over £250 to £750 deposit £100
over £750 deposit £200

can a fixed sum deposit be added to the screens worked out on the value of the hire (operators may wish to enter their own amounts)

I think you can use Minimum amount and Maximum amount features in backend Payment Edit screen. For above scenario, I think you have to configure 3 payment methods. Min. and Max. for first method will be 0 and £250, for second £250 and £750, for third £750 and 0. Then, for hire amount £200, only first method will be appeared and for hire amount something like £500, only second method will be appeared. Also, you can set Percentage of hire amount in each payment method.

Hope this helps

i have setup 2 payments but can still only take a percentage of each payment where i prefer a fixed sum (£25 and £100 and eventually £200)

Can't you use Fee per transaction (Flat amount to apply per transaction) ?

I don't think we are on the same page. Let me explain based on your payment settings.

You have 2 payment options, deposit hires upto £250 will be visible if Order Total is less than or equal to £250. You have set Fee per transaction = 25 here, this means £25 will be added to Order Total, if Order Total is £50, then Grand Total will be £75. Also, you have set Prepayment (%) = 0, this means customer will not need to pay anything for now, whole amount can be paid later as £0 will be passed to PayPal.

Hope this helps

so going back to original request instead of or as well as a percent box on the payment setup, can we have a fixed deposit amount that can be setup by the admin this amount would be shown and deducted from the final price on the email sent to customer. i have sorted the fee thing on both my payment options.

the reason i require this is due to opposition operators putting fictitious hires into my diary they are less likely to do this if they have put money into the hire

Hi a1lux,
Deposit is set to % of total because of different totals for each company using the system. There is good chance for Trip total to be less than Flat rate deposit which will make no sense to the customer.
Paying 50% deposit is always a good retainer for any Order.

Hope this helps.
Kind regards.
