#757 – PayPal guest checkout

I've been facing an issue with guest checkout. A while ago, customers could checkout and make payment using a credit/debit card with no issues

I'm not sure what happened, but now there's a requirement for guests to create a new PayPal account before they can process with card payment.

I followed the steps provided by PayPal here but its still the same. A friend of mine also mentioned using the Express Checkout API to fix this. Does Drivenot support/use it?

Do you have any idea on how this can be resolved? Please advise, thanks.

Hi Robert,
we are already using Express checkout - this is the API that is integrated in the PayPal payment method.
PayPal is allowing users to use their Credit/Debit card instead of PayPal account - there is a link on the payment page: Pay with debit or credit card - which opens a Debit/Credit card payment form.
If a user doesn't have a PayPal account at all (no PayPal cookies is set on their browser) then that form is open by default. At least that used to be the case not long ago.

PayPal reserves the right to change their policy and operation from time to time and we can not control that at all.
You may look into alternative payment methods like Stripe.

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, have noticed that cookies are the key factor in deciding if the Pay with debit or credit card button shows up. Unfortunate really, gives the impression that customers can pay via PayPal only.

Strange thing is, one of my test accounts works fine. Shows the Pay with debit or credit card button all the time and can checkout without any issues.

Anyway will continue testing on this. Hope PayPal doesn't change their policy again :(
